Old School Riesling, Weingut Staffelter Hof, 2018

from €15.75

In the year 862, King Lothar II transferred ownership of Stavelot Abbey to Stavelot Abbey, which was located in his “ fiscus crovia ” on the Moselle, together with the wine fees. The abbey lacked wine: "ob exiguitatem vini".

The later name of the winery is derived from the name of the abbey: Stablo (Latin) – Stav'leu (Walloon = wolf stable ) – Stavelot. Hence the name and coat of arms of the Staffelter Hof.

The winery celebrated its 1150th anniversary in 2012 , based on the document (see below) from the year 862, making it the oldest still existing company in Germany and one of the oldest companies in the world .
