The Château Mouton-Rothschild is one of the most famous wineries in France. It is located in Bordeaux in Pauillac, on the border with Saint-Estèphe. It is next to an other famous winery: Château Lafite-Rothschild.
Château Mouton-Rothschild has been classified as Premier Grand Cru Classé under the Bordeaux wine classification system of 1855, however only since 1973 (after 51 years of lobbying, this is the only major change since 1855); previously it was a Deuxiéme Grand Cru Classé (Second Grand Cru Classé).
